Two songbird species (Warbler and Finch) do not compete for food because Warblers eat insects and Finches eat seeds. Both, however, are hunted by the same hawk. After a wet spring, insect numbers rise and Warbler numbers increase. Later that summer, Finch numbers drop even though seed supply stays the same.
